NAIOP chapter leaders across Canada expressed support of the federal government’s decision to require that federal public servants return to their offices for a minimum of three days per week.
"This hybrid model is consistent with the approach we are seeing across Canada in the private sector and is a positive first step towards returning to a more effective and collaborative work model that is essential to restoring vibrancy to our city centres," they said.

Meanwhile, a new study on revitalizing Ottawa’s downtown sheds light on the need for the city to look at doing more than just bringing federal public servants back to the office. It suggests additional efforts that include adding 40,000 new residents and 50,000 new jobs to the city's core by 2034. A variety of measures are proposed to accomplish this goal, including raising $500-million from government and the private sector for a capital investment fund to accelerate key projects and enhance local sites, such as the Sparks Street Mall and the Byward Market. A program to establish a business incubation district and arts and culture corridor has also been recommended.
